Exams are tomorrow and i am preparing BUT i cant get anything in. :/Challenges of a multi-ethnic society.1. Managing perceptions of different racial groups:-the lack of understanding among different racial groups can create suspicion and unhappiness among them as experienced by the singaporeans during the racial riot in 1960s.-as a result, the riot illustrated how the peace and harmony in singapore and be easily broken through irresponsible media reporting.2. Mangaing perceptions of defferent religous groups:-the difference in cultural beliefs and practices are also issues that can create tension among the people in singapore as illustrated at the maria hertogh which happened in the 1950s.-as a result, this shows that religious issues are to hbe handled carefully, or hostility and distrust may occur among the people in singapore and thus affecting the relationship of the dirrent religious groups.3.threats from external forces-transnational terrorism are able to test the social bonds between singaporeans.-the threat are to be handled carfully as it might divide the people in singapore if not handled correctly.-race and religion can be used to create ill feelings amongst the multi ethnic group which eventually threatens the racial and religous harmony.-as a result, mixed reactions shows that there is an urgent need to ensure that the social cohension in singapore is not affected and for singaporean to continue to live and work together harmonniuosly with one another.Managing multi ethnic diversity,Building a national identity through,1. mutli racialism-promotes equality amongst all the races.-favouring one races over another i prohibited by the constitution.-as a result, equal opportunity is given to everyone in singapore regardless of race. therefore everyone being a valued member of the society, a sense of national identity when singaporeans is created.2. common practices-singing the national athem, receiting the pledge, and attending flag raising ceremony together let them see themselves as one people.-as a result, a national identity is fostered through the loyalty and national pride towards singapore.3. bilingualism'-students are required to learn english and th\eir own mother tongue to link different ethnic groups-as a result, people are able to communicate in a common language and by learning their own mother tongue, it is for the retention of thier cultural traditions and to educate them with moral values.safeguarding the interest of minority gruops by:1. minority representation-was given a say in the governance so as to safeguard the interests of the minority groups.-as a result, the concern and needs of the minority groups are made known to the government and thus ensuring the equality of its treatment to the people.2. self-help groups-were set up to help the members of their communities who are less fortunate to get aid in their studies and trainingfor thier jobs.-as a result of having self help group, this will help improve the economic and social status of singapore. by participating in the activities organised by the self help group, people from different ethnic group would be able to communicate and interact with one another.developing comman space:1. events and prograammes organised by grassroots organisations- to create common space through their wide range programmes and activities developed to cater to the needs and interest of everysingaporean.-as a result, participants would be able to gain a better understanding to the cultures and custonms of the other ethnic groups and with mutual respect, strong relationship can be built over time.2. opportunities offered by education institution.- education institution such as schools are open to all of the people in singapore reardless of race and religion. CCa also help students to understand one another and work together.-as a result, students learn to appreciate one another's talents and respect one another.3. activitiesconducted by ionter racial confidence circles and armony circles.- to provide the common space to foster greater inter racial understanding -as a result, activities such as visting places of worship will allow people to build up their confidence and build strong relationship among one another.4. common living space provided by public housing-to hinder the social bonding of different race and religious . so as to ensure an even distribution of different races in all the housing estates.-as a result, living in the same neighbourhood, people willbe able to communicate and interact with one nother.5.shared experience in national service- to let different ethnic groups to interact with the national service.- all able bodied mens are to serve in defence for the country.-as a result, this helps to strengthen the bonds amongst the mens.thats all i remembered, sad hor.baaaaaaah, i'm out,
